It's a good day for a good day - Jessica

"It's a good day for a good day." Yeah, we'd need that for later.

We got to the airport, checked the bags, got through security and onto the plane. No problems. Then we land in Seattle and think, we're home free. We just need to catch the shuttle to the hotel, meet up with Don and Tana - easy right?

Wrong. So, so wrong. The parents called the hotel and we waited for the shuttle. And waited. When it finally arrived, we grabbed our bags thankful that food was near. It was pushing 1:15 pacific time and we'd yet to eat lunch. We neared the van, victory in sight before realizing it was a shuttle to a different Hampton Inn. The parents called the wrong hotel.

It's okay. Minor setback. We can come back from this. After a quick regroup, we called again. Head to door 512, island 3, they told us. Weird, I thought. That sounded oddly like DIA directions. I quickly dismissed the thought and looked around. We were at island 1C across from door 22. Okay - weird. That's when my mom chimed in, laughing, saying she had called the Denver Hampton Inn by accident.

Two strikes. As the parents regrouped, we kids whispered in the background. Call an Uber? Have Don and Tana pick us up? They were already at our hotel after all. The parents tried one last time, calling what they swore was the right hotel. Yeah, okay. (This is my "yeah, okay" face.)

Finally, as 1:45 crept near, a Hampton Inn shuttle approached. We walked towards it, our stomachs grumbling, ready to start our adventure. "South side Hampton" the driver called. Wrong hotel. Did they call the wrong one again?

No, this was a mere coincidence. Five minutes later, after coaxing on the part of Tana to the hotel staff, the correct shuttle arrived. We boarded and made our way to the hotel. After some quick snacks, Don and Tana took us to their space ship, I mean car, and we headed into Seattle.

We decided we'd drive the car onto the ferry to head to Bremerton for dinner (lunch). "You'll remember it forever," my mom cried.
After a wee bit of difficulty getting on the ferry (missing the turn, illegal three point turn in the middle of an intersection), we made it on and across.

Don dropped us off in front of our fourth Hampton Inn with promises (from signs) that Anthony's (a seafood place) was nearby. We walked into the hotel. "Is Anthony's in the hotel?" I asked Ben. "I think we're in the hotel," the adults said and we headed back outside. I looked over to the left at a store front and thought, I'd bet you anything that Anthony's is up there. So what did we do? Go right.

It's okay, it's okay. We got this awesome picture of Dad with his son (me) because of it. My mom asked Dad and Ben to recreate the statue. Ben decided he wanted to be the propeller, and Joe was not interested, so I decided I'd step in and volunteer to be the son he never had (just kidding, he has two).

We scored the corner table at Anthony's and thankfully, our waitress was kind enough to save us from another selfie. We had more courses than I can remember (food coma) and more glasses of wine than I can count (dru... just kidding). After Ben paid (yes, Ben has been paying and tipping and signing), we decided we needed to take a few photos before running off to catch the ferry back to Seattle.

It's a good day to have a good day.

  1. I am so glad you got to eat some good food with a great view! I used to work at Anthony's Homeport in Kirkland, WA and I ate seafood at least 4 times per week. I miss that. Enjoy the rest of your family vacation!
